Semester Reflection

“What’s a sanction”, I asked my dad one of the first few days of school, he looked at me surprised and a bit taken back that the word “sanction” was even in my vocabulary. That wasn’t the last time I asked him about something we were learning in Mr. Fielder’s class. I learned so much this year about things I wouldn’t have even known about if I wasn’t in Global Ed.

As much as I complained about the weekly articles and how they were so time consuming, I realized how much I learned from them. The article I enjoyed most was dealing with Iran (not just because I got a great grade), I though the coolest part was while we were talking about how the USA should solve this problem, our countries leaders were trying to solve the same exact problem. “I think that the USA should deal with Iran and their nuclear weapons by enforcing embargos and Sanctions.” This way other large cities like Tehran Iran would rethink their nuclear power and it would change the counties program of weapons.

Last year at this time I didn’t even know what the “Rwandan genocide” was. Once we started learning about it I found this not only inserting but I really wanted to learn more about it. I was quite confused at the beginning, trying to figure out the different groups and what each group played what role in the Genocide. I also thought it was awful the Hutus were trying to take power of the Tutsis, but they difference between each group was something as different as their nose shape; job or even what belonged to them. I really wanted to know who actually started this mess and what in the world they were thinking, but later to find out that many different groups were in charge.

Finding a “credible source” was also something very helpful to learn, I always knew not to trust everything you read and preach everything you hear, but that didn’t stop me from printing an article off from just anywhere. Now I know not to believe everything from “wiki” even if it was the first link & quick and easy. I learned to check to sites to see if it is “true” because chances are if two or more sites have it, it’s correct information.

Cultural Events have been my favorite thing about Global Ed; I would never take the time to go to the “Henry Ford Museum” on a Saturday or go to the “Greek Festival”. However when we are forced to go somewhere new every cultural event, it makes for a good learning expierence. I enjoy going to these cultural places, I also enjoy spending time with my family when I go.

The first week of Global Ed, I'm not gonna lie I wasnt a huge fan. However now that I take my time doing to work, and enjoy it more ,than complain Im glad that I took the class to learn all of the above and beyond.

Does History Repeat its self?

Many people say history repeats its self, however I believe in History there is a significant period where every country goes through a ruff period time, and they face a struggle. This period might last 46 years like South Africa’s apartheid or The Rwandan genocide where 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days. This time in History is a challenge for the country it tests there economy, government, and it’s even a test for how the citizens can handle it.

The country faces deep sorrow & pain, however after the fact it usually brings the country to realize they never ever want anything like that to happen again, so they try harder to work together and go against the odds. The South Africa apartheid is also where this took place. The different color groups were against eachother, The apartheid was a terrible time where the whites ruled and the coloured were placed on different land and had different rights then everyone else.

The Future.

Lately we have been thinking about our future more than ever. When we were younger we were so excited to grow up I wanted to be a teacher. I would always make my little sister play school & I was the bossy teacher. I still think it would wonderful to be a teacher or social worker however I just cant imagine doing that my whole life. I would love to know that I am helping someone everyday.

As I got older I realized that my opinion and interests changed. I was becoming more into Fashion & Style. When I was younger I would care about what I wore, but as I got older I started paying attention to what everyone wore. I know you can’t judge a book by its cover but in the Fashion world that’s what its all about. My inspiration is Betsey Johnson. I think her sence of style is so weird but its prefect & she finds the perfect combination of trendy and fancy.

I don’t know the exact job title of what I would want to do. I would like to learn more about the different jobs and the ladder of success when it comes to fashion. I would love to be a personal stylish and come up with a look for them for certin events.
Many people say that this career is unrealistic & not many people actually follow through on it however when I set a goal or dream I try my hardest.

I also think a job being a New reporter would be really cool. I would wanna be the Women on ESPN reporting reporting after the winning goal. I think this would be a good job because I can be a nosey person sometimes & I ask a lot of questions. I would need to learn alot more about sport before I got that job.
Either Job I choose or get I hope to be successful and live a life filled with happiness, love and giving.

Rwanda.

I think the Rwandan situation has many different sides to the story and unfortunately I don’t think it was ever solved or will be solved. I think that everyone took part in this disaster & everyone should be blamed and has a reason to be blamed. I think the most disturbing part is the Interahamwe, I think it is terrible that they walked around killing young children & women. It’s disturbing enough that women and men were killed but it’s even worse that children were killed. I think Belgium was also at fault because they thought they were to mature and left Rwanda. I liked learing about this more hands on rather than using a text book or listening to a teacher lecture. I think many people learn better working with a group because you can get the in put of other classmates, they might think something different than you & it can give you a different prospective.

I loved debating in class, I loved hearing everyone’s opinion I also loved how the conversations got heated because it is inserting to hear how everyone feels about the topic. I wish I would have more of an opinion on this topic & felt strongly about it because then I would have been able to get more into the conversation. I think I was also insecure about what I was thinking wondering if I was correct or wrong when really it’s just your opinion. I hope to debate more in Mr. Fielder’s class but I hope it’s on a different topic that people more know about and can use prior knowledge .

American Scholar.

Emerson’s argument in “The American Scholar” about American society still holds true today. In our world today after college most people get a job, sometimes before college, Most people hope to work with the same company or a different company but doing the same type of work. In any form of bussiness you might start as a inter or low man on the totum pole however you don’t want to stay in the same job possition forever. You hope to excell and maybe get a higher position. However once you start this career you are going to need the same skills forever.

Emerson says that once you are on your career pathway you usually don’t choose anyother mid way, and then loose your other skills that aren’t used in that career. Emerson optimistic came in handy, in his essays he would say,” Self Reliance and The Over-soul might be summed up in one of his epigrams.” Emerson was a optimistics & he showed that in his quotes, and diary enteries. However Emerson went through a dark time in his life, He quotes, " I find myself often idle, vagrant, stupid, and I am indolent and shall be insignificant.

Emerson's argument still holds true today because our counrty In paragraph one, it says that when you pick a job in the job field whether its medical field, Education, Science, or Arts & communication you typical stay in the same pathway your entire life. Emerson said this along time ago & I think it still holds true today.

Halloween Happenings.

I'm not much of a scary movie person, I don't like to watch scary movies because I get scared to easily. However my favorite movie that has the spooky vampire feel, is Twilight! Not only do I think Taylor Lautner and Rob Pattinson are very attractive, I love the feel that movie gives off. My favorite part in the movie is when Edward sees Bella for the 1st time in science class.
I personally don't like Kristin Stewart, she drives me NUTS but once I get over the fact Edward and Jacob both have a crush on a girl that drives me crazy, I enjoy the movie.
November 20, can not come soon enough, on this special date New Moon comes out aka the Twilight sequel. I'm most looking forward to see Taylor Lautner with his freshly chopped of hair and his fabulous new body, I realize that might sound creepy but everyone was thinking it, I was just the one to say it.

My all time favorite Halloween candy would either be Carmel Apple Suckers and Hershey bars. However my FAVORITE part of Halloween is sorting my candy, and yeah I know that is really lame and nerdy but I can't help it. I love seeing the different kinds and amounts I get each year.

When I was little I was every princess for Halloween, and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. She was my obsession. This year however my Halloween costume is on the last minuet side, but I am being a Tooth Fairy! I'm very excited.

This halloween I had my friends over before we went Tricker Treathing, it included Bridget,Rachel,Brooke,Kelly,Gabe,Taylor,Ally and the other Brooke! After tricker treating we went to a haunted house in my neighborhood it was so spooky, they jumped out onto your car. I would say Ally was most scared because the man with the mask was at her window, and her mom rolled do the window! It was really funny! After that we all came back and sorted our candy and watched a movie! I'd say it was a really fun Halloween other than the fact Bridget got sick, but she is better now!

Oh Jillian.

Best Friends: someone that is always there for you. I think the person who can best fit this description is my sister Jillian. Yes we do fight like all siblings and she has hit me with a spatula, and threw a shoe at me but I still love her. Jillian is a 6th grader at Riley Upper Elementary.
Jillian is one of the funniest people I have ever met; she is like my Uncle Jim they are always cracking jokes and making people laugh, without trying. Jillian can make anyone laugh and always breaks the ice if someone is in a fight, with her humor. Jillian and I have many common inserts including we love to dance, we love the same music including Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, Lady Ga Ga, and Beyonce. Jillian also loves to dance however this summer she had knee surgery this summer so she can't dance for 3 months it is killing her because Jillian is a very active sole. She is always outside with her "running crew" or riding her bike, dancing or playing basketball. So for Jillian not being able to do any physical activity for 3 months it’s a real killer.

Family Vacations are always fun with Jillian because she is always being a jokester and prankster. Our favorite family vacation was Mexico we went for spring break 3 years ago and are going back this spring break. Jillian though it would be funny to throw ice cubes off the balcony on our trip in Chicago this summer, she got in trouble but my parents started laughing when they were yelling at her because she was cracking another joke.

In her spare time Jillian enjoying dancing, making bracelets, and especially hanging outside, she is ALWAYS outside we have a very active neighborhood with plenty of kids so she always has a “running crew”.
The bottom line is Jillian and I will always be there for eachother, even when there are times she wants to throw a shoe at me, I will always be there for her too. Friends may come and go but siblings are forever.
